November 23, 2025,Elon Musk revealed on social media platform X that Tesla is advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) chip development at an aggressive pace. Currently, Tesla vehicles are equipped with the AI4 chip, but the company is nearing the completion of the AI5 chip’s tape-out (final design stage for manufacturing) and has already begun work on the next-generation AI6 chip.
Musk emphasized Tesla’s ambitious goal of bringing a new AI chip to mass production every 12 months. “We are targeting a new AI chip in production every year,” he stated.
In a bold claim, Musk added that Tesla’s future AI chip production volume is expected to surpass the combined output of all other AI chips in the market. “We expect our total chip production to exceed that of all other AI chips combined. And I’m not joking,” he said.
The rapid iteration of Tesla’s AI chips underscores the company’s commitment to leading in autonomous driving, vehicle intelligence, and broader AI applications.
